Concerts

I have been an organist since I started in 1985 at two small churches in central Funen.

I then studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Professor Hans van Nieuwkoop 1989-90 and took a Church Music Diploma from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in 1996 with Professor Hans Fagius as a teacher in art playing.

Master classes with, among others, Harald Vogel, David Sanger, Anders Bondeman, H.O. Ericsson and Jon Laukvik (organ) and Lars Ulrik Mortensen (harpsichord) as well as Improvisation Studies with William Porter, Boston, USA, 1994

In the last 20 years I have played concerts as a soloist/chamber musician in most of Denmark as well as Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Spain, England, France, Poland as well as in Japan, the USA and Argentina.

I offer, among others, the following concerts:

Organ/Communication Concert” with premiere – a concert that takes the audience through 400 years of Danish organ music, concluding with a newly written work by Povl Chr. Balslev – a work that will have a special connection to your church. Occasionally, the music is told – this communication gives the concertgoer a very special experience of the concert.

The trio Mads la Cour, trumpet, Morten Øberg, saxophones and Povl Balslev, piano have over the past few years interpreted a large number of hymns and songs and deliver both an atmospheric and captivating concert experience that can be combined with communal singing and storytelling if desired.

Eva Østergaard, flute and Povl Chr. Balslev, organ and piano deliver an atmospheric concert based on their critically acclaimed CD “Lys i mørket”. Danish and Nordic arrangements are mixed at the concert with Povl Chr. Balslev 5 Nordic meditations for flute and piano.

Povl Chr. Balslev has over the past 20 years written almost 200 melodies for songs and hymn texts by a long line of our well-known poets. At the concert, a number of these are presented in beautiful interpretations by singer Ditte Kjær Sørensen, cellist Maja Freese and Povl Chr. Balslev himself. The concert can possibly be combined with a story by the composer.

The children’s opera troupe consisting of soprano Lise Bech Bendix, flutist Eva Østergaard, French hornist Susanne Skov and composer and pianist Povl Chr. Balslev presents the opera “The largest and the smallest”. The opera tells the story of the largest mammal (the whale) and the smallest (the bat) and deals with topics such as identity, loss, faith, doubt and joy presented at a child-friendly level. The opera can be supplemented with a story about instruments and opera in general.

“Prisme” – a Funen ensemble, consisting of harp, violin, accordion and organ, consisting of musicians with both classical and folk music backgrounds. The repertoire is composed of simple and atmospheric music, primarily Nordic and Celtic folk tunes, own compositions and beautiful arrangements of Danish hymns, as well as community hymns as a natural part of the program see more at www.prisme-music.dk
